Keith Talbot has produced a good report on the Cyril Blake and Print competitions. Here it is...
In 2018 East Brighton received a home draw for the first time in 4 years, somewhat ironic given the difficulties our course has suffered this year. We faced Piltdown, who are always a strong team, but we nevertheless secured an impressive 3-1 victory.
The 2nd round again favoured us with another home tie, this time against Ham Manor, who we knew would be a tough obstacle to overcome. It proved to be a real battle, finishing 2-2 which meant that one pair representing each club in a play off. Jim Daniels and Trevor Hearn narrowly lost to their opponents, who played off 2 & 3 respectively!
And so , we entered the Gilbert Print competition with our first match being away to Chichester. As they were likely to use players with higher handicaps, changes were made to our team with 3 players, Peter Clements, Peter Harris and Alan Gibbons all making their first appearances. We triumphed 3-1, a tremendous achievement as they were Cyril Blake winners in 2016.
Round 2 saw us at home again with Horsham being our opposition this time. Another excellent performance from East Brighton saw us secure a 4-0 victory though it was not as easy as the scoreline suggests.
Now into the Quarter-Finals, we have an away tie at Highwoods on the 30th July.
Keith would like to thank all the members of the squad who have played this year,
Mick Dickens, Trevor Hearn, Pete Lenihan, David Carr, Peter Clements, Pedro Harris, Steve Antram, Alan Gibbons, Peter Baker, Stephen Grant, Tim Bye, Jim Daniels, Mike Lewis, Brian Hunt and Keith Talbot.
